Anna Calvi, The Head and The Heart and Delorean are all on both of the charts this week too.
Bear Hands debut at #1 on the singles chart with "Giants." Broken Bells and The Chain Gang Of 1974 are tied up at #3. I’m very excited for Against Me!’s new album to arrive at long last in January and the first single, "F***MYLIFE666," debuts on the singles chart at #5. "Cool Kids" from Echosmith is at #6t, while PAPA and The Wombats are part of the tie at #10. Looking at the album chart, Reflektor from Arcade Fire is at #2t and Poliça’s Shulamith is up to #9.

Veteran indie rock act Shearwater began back in 1999 as a side project of Okkervil River, but over the years has grown and evolved. Centered around frontman and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Meiburg, the band just released a new studio album in 2012 (Animal Joy). However, Meiburg & co. started working on a covers EP, which ended up evolving into an entire record. In fact, he says that "Fellow Travelers wasn’t supposed to be a full-length record, so I’m a little surprised to admit that it’s my favorite Shearwater album so far. Somehow it slipped under the door." Working with a variety of musicians, Shearwater has tackled tunes by everyone from Coldplay to St. Vincent. The highlight of the record is an excellent rendition of the ‘90s classic "Natural One" by Folk Implosion (which debuts at #2 on the singles chart this week). Fellow Travelers takes the #1 slot on the album chart too. Shearwater return to traveling the country in early 2014, with a new tour kicking off February 6 in Phoenix. Roman Remains is a new side project from British indie-rockers The Duke Spirit (and not a tribute album to WWE superstar Roman Reigns). Duke Spirit frontman Liela Moss and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Toby Butler step out on their own with an entertaining mix of darker electro-pop sounds. The pair released their debut EP, Energy You, earlier this month and it debuts at #7t on this week’s SubModern album chart. "This Stone Is Starting To Bleed" lands at #13t. The EP reminds me at times of the first songs we heard from How To Destroy Angels, as Moss’ vocals are layered over moody, industrial, electronic beats. This is the first taste of Roman Remains, as Moss and Butler are at work on a full-length album, expected out in 2014. Learn more about Roman Remains at (where else?) romanremains.com.
